Check out the new hotness: Tagged Movies!
So, remember how in the posts for episodes, there would (usually) be a list of movies mentioned in that episode, where the titles were (sometimes) links to the IMDb page for that movie?
Well, now we’ve got something even cooler — and even easier for us to create when we post a new episode, so we should be able to do it consistently from now on. We’ve replaced those lists of links on our existing posts with WordPress tags, and the archive page for each tag now lists every episode with that tag, and it pulls in details from IMDb automatically!
See for yourself — check out a few of our most-discussed movies: Oculus, Only Lovers Left Alive, The Babadook, and The Guest.
This is a feature we’ve been wanting to add for a long time, and we’re excited to finally be rolling it out. Hope you find it useful — we know we will. Mind you, since this is brand-new, there will probably be a few bugs in it, still — so if you see any problems, let us know in the comments. Thanks!
DRtL Episode 33: Horror Romances!
Wooo-hooo, look at us! We swore we would have a new episode ready in two weeks and by God we actually did it.
Inspired by our recent viewing of Crimson Peak, this time we’re taking a look at Horror Romances! Even though the course of true love never quite runs smooth in a horror movie — it’s hard to give someone your heart when they really do want your heart, and they’re willing to use their sharpest knives to get it — we’re cuddling up as close to this topic as we can get. Do join us, won’t you, dear?

DRtL Episode 32: The 70’s, Baby!
Welcome to the latest, almost hilariously overdue episode of Don’t Read the Latin, with your hosts, shiftless ne’er-do-well Michael Montoure and Magical Girl Jennifer Lovely! I know we keep saying this, but we will, hell-or-high-water, be going back to our normal bi-weekly schedule following this, even if someone has to die. (Not one of us, ideally. It’ll be no one you know, don’t worry.)
This time out, grab your bell-bottoms and your disco shoes, because we’re going back to the 70’s! Even though the 70’s are not our favorite horror movie decade (that would be the 80’s), you could make a strong claim that it was the best, with a high number of standout classics. Give it a listen and let us know what you think.
Recommended! As far as new movies go, there are two we’ve seen lately that are both super, super-fun, and we highly suggest you give these two a watch ASAP: Tales of Halloween and The Final Girls. Four thumbs up. (That’s two from each of us.)

DRtL Episode 31: The Kids Are Alright
Horror movies with kid heroes. It’s a natural. How better to make an audience scared for your protagonist than to make him (or her) a young, vulnerable, innocent child? Throw in the “your parents will never believe you” trope, and you’re set for some real scares. This episode, we salute the best child protagonists the horror genre has to offer.
Join Michael and Jennifer as they dissect the casting and plot direction of Hannibal’s third season, play with an Angel puppet, talk about the Paul Stanley / Dee Snyder feud, and reveal the secret of how to get Jennifer’s daughter to watch a movie that might be slightly scary. Listen in amazement as Michael fucks up immediately! (We talked about People Under the Stairs during the Wes Craven episode, not the Stephen King episode. Obviously.)
We apologize once more, I’m afraid, for the sound quality of this episode. We forgot to set up the powered USB port for the microphone, and therefore that “robots gargling underwater” background echo is back. Yay. Also you can hear traffic outside and Jennifer’s cat meowing, although hopefully that last part is endearing. Anyway. We’ll try to set things up a little better next time.

For those who haven’t seen it, here’s the “Public Service Announcement” Michael mentions making on Tumblr, in a post that’s received over 25,000 notes so far:

DRtL Episode 30: Wes Craven Retrospective
Apologies for the delay with this episode — it’s even later than we said it was going to be when we said it was going to be late.
We needed a little extra time to pull this one together. We were both saddened to learn of the recent passing of Wes Craven, who pretty much single-handedly reinvented the horror movie genre over the course of his career — not just once, but three times.
Montoure talks about movies that make you feel unsafe, Jennifer talks about getting to meet Robert Englund, and so much more.
______
Guest Cat: Abby, Jennifer’s grumpy old lady kitty
Official Drink of this Episode: Woodchuck Fall Harvest Hard Cider with cinnamon whiskey. It’s ridiculously good. You should try it.
Pumpkin Bat: Pumpkin Bat! Here’s a picture, as promised.

No Podcast This Week
Just a quick note to let you know that there is no new episode this week. Your horror hosts are bogged down in more domestic concerns — Jennifer is busy settling into her new house, and Michael is out of town housesitting for his sister. Regular service will resume next Monday. Happy Labor Day, everyone!
DRtL Episode 29: Wolf at the Door!
Jennifer Lovely was unable to make it to a recording session this week, since she is in the process of moving and is busy doing All the Things, so instead Michael Montoure is joined by horror movie aficionado Miranda Wolf! We’ve been meaning to have Miranda on the podcast for ages, and this seemed like a good time to do it.
We kind of flirt with the idea of having an overall theme for the episode, such as Slasher Movies, but it never quite happens. Join us as we talk instead about 80’s slasher movies; Star Trek and Babylon 5 fans fighting in the streets; Montoure’s literal scar from a science fiction convention; differences between the Hannibal TV series, books, and films; ideas for slasher movie role-playing games and the horror board game Betrayal at House on the Hill; puns about feet (so very, very many puns about feet); the literal and figurative horrors that are lurking within Miranda’s Netflix queue; and so much more!

DRtL Episode 28: Comfort Movies!
You know what we’re talking about — you’re home for a sick day, or maybe you’ve just straight-up run out of fucks. In either case, it’s time to crash on the couch with a pint of ice cream. Or maybe not — maybe it’s just time to try to get something done around the house that you’ve been putting off, like tackling that mountain of laundry, and you just want a movie to put on that won’t demand your full attention.
However it goes, you reach for a comfort movie — something you’ve already seen a zillion times, but just don’t get tired of. The cinematic equivalent of comfort food. A big ol’ audio-visual bowl of macaroni and cheese. Maybe with the emphasis on “cheese.” (As such, this episode sometimes strays way, way far out of strict horror movie territory. We promise you’ll be entertained anyway.)
We are joined this time by the always-charming Jillian Venters, the Lady of the Manners herself, from Gothic Charm School!

DRtL Episode 27: Movies You May Have Missed!
Welcome back, fiends! This time, your horror hosts are taking a look back at the last ten years of horror films and trying to bring to light the movies that may have flown under your radar when they were released. A lot of top-notch recommendations this episode.
We’re posting this slightly later in the day than usual due to some audio issues that we weren’t quite able to completely resolve, so we apologize for the sound quality on this one. There’s kind of a background echo to it all that sounds a little like robots gargling underwater, and it was present in the original recording, so we’re going to be looking into improving our microphone setup in future. Hope it’s not too distracting.
Questions, comments, things you’d like to hear in future episodes? Let us know! We’d love to read your feedback on the show. And as always, don’t forget to share, reblog, rate us on iTunes, or just kidnap people off the street and force them to listen to the podcast while tied up in your basement. Enjoy!

DRtL Episode 26: Brains! I Mean, Zombies!
Welcome back to Don’t Read the Latin, the podcast that brings you horror movie news, reviews, and opinions every two weeks! Or three weeks. Or thereabouts. (I’d swear we used to be better at this.)
Anyway, join us as we come lurching back from the grave to discuss zombies! Even though neither Michael nor Jen consider ourselves zombie fans, per se, it turns out there are a ton of zombie films we really like. A whole horde of them, you might say. Although it turns out we have our disagreements as to just what, exactly, constitutes a zombie film ….
Look At Our Shorts!
Curious about the zombie kangaroo short film Michael mentions? Well, of course you are, right? Here it is — WATERBORNE:
Also, just to round things out, here’s another short film that we didn’t remember to mention during the podcast, but a couple of listeners had recommended it to us and it’s pretty damn awesome — THRESHER.

Spread the Word!
A zombie outbreak spreads pretty quickly. But word-of-mouth about a podcast doesn’t go quite so far and wide. If you love Don’t Read the Latin — and we sure hope you do — won’t you take a minute to help other horror fans find us by clicking one of the social sharing buttons below, or leave us a review on iTunes? It means the world to us. Thanks!
